Introduction of Development Area Bithoor

Rich in historical and religious treasures, Bithoor city, is situated on the right bank of river Ganges 25 km away from Kanpur city. The town is also connected to GT Road (Provincial Highway No. 22) through the Bithoor-Kalyanpur, Bithoor-Mandhana and Bithoor-Choubpur Link Roads. It is also connected to Mandhana junction of Kanpur-Kasganj section by North Eastern Railway Line.

The Brahma’s peak is placed on the Brahmavarta Ghat in Bithoor Nagar, which is indicator of the place of Yagy. Every year on the day of Kartik Purnima fair is organised. Here, millions of devotees take bath in river Ganges. It is also well known that Maharishi Balmiki had composed the Ramayana here in Bithoor Nagar only. In the new Bithoor region, "Valmiki Ashram" exists as a proof. Bithoor city also has an important place in historical and religious sphere. The last Peshwa Bajirao excessively expanded the Bithoor town.

This historic town of ancient pride and religious significance has been neglected for many decades, due to which many religious / historical buildings have become dilapidated and their existence is disappearing. As a result, the present condition of the city and the prestige of the past are falling. With the lack of resources and weak economic base, and the absences of adequate development plan the significance of the city is declining, on the other hand, as a tourist center the development has become highly disorganised

Although the city is an attractive destination for tourists, but as a tourist centre the expected development has not been done. On the contrary, due to unplanned physical development, dirty environment, encroachment on the roads, and the crowded areas the possibility of development of tourism facilities are limited. Therefore, to strengthen the economic base of the city, the Bithoor will have to mainly rely on the tourism industry.

For the purpose of guiding the development of the city, strengthening the economic base and promoting tourism development, the city and village planning department, Uttar Pradesh, has prepared the master plan for this city. This master plan is a long term plan, in which the proposals had been given for analysis of the present structure of the city, side by side, for the fulfilment of the various needs of the estimated 25000 population of the city by 2021.

Proposals for new routes, bus stands, parking etc. have been proposed along with the increase in road width of the city for ease of traffic of the city. Proposals have been made for central action for smooth functioning of community facilities and parks for healthy living.
