Kapilvastu is situated on the Tarai belt of Sidharth Nagar District of Uttar Pradesh in India. Kapilvastu is situated 22 K.M of North of Naugarh town. The casket which has been recovered from the Stup of Kapilvastu in an excavation in the year 1976 can be seen in the National museum. During Budh Purnima a special pooja is held every year by the Mahabodhi socity for the special pooja rituals of these sacred (bone) remains. Pilgrims from all over the world come to visit the remains of Lord Buddha.
